Background of the Study
Customer satisfaction is a fundamental aspect of business success, especially in retail. The introduction of POS systems has been instrumental in enhancing the shopping experience by offering seamless and efficient transaction processes. Grocery stores, which frequently cater to a high volume of daily customers, rely heavily on these systems to manage payments, track inventory, and generate real-time sales reports.
Research by Musa et al. (2023) highlights that customer satisfaction in Abuja grocery stores correlates strongly with transaction efficiency. POS systems simplify payment methods by accommodating cashless transactions, reducing queues, and minimizing errors. As customers increasingly demand faster and more convenient shopping experiences, businesses that invest in POS systems stand to gain a competitive edge.
However, challenges such as system downtimes and limited customer awareness about electronic payment methods remain prevalent. This study investigates the effectiveness of POS systems in enhancing customer satisfaction in Abuja’s grocery stores, offering insights into their operational benefits and limitations.
Statement of the Problem
Grocery stores in Abuja face significant challenges in maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. Long queues, transaction errors, and cash handling inefficiencies are common issues that negatively impact the shopping experience. While POS systems are expected to address these challenges, their effectiveness in achieving this goal remains uncertain due to technical, operational, and infrastructural barriers.
Studies on the relationship between technology adoption and customer satisfaction have largely been generalized, with limited focus on grocery stores in Abuja. Without clear evidence on the effectiveness of POS systems in this context, businesses may struggle to justify investments in these technologies. This study seeks to address this knowledge gap by exploring the impact of POS systems on customer satisfaction in Abuja.

Research Hypotheses
1. H₀: POS systems do not significantly enhance customer satisfaction in grocery stores.
2. H₀: There is no significant relationship between POS system usage and transaction efficiency in grocery stores.
3. H₀: Challenges associated with POS systems do not significantly impact their effectiveness in grocery stores.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on grocery stores in Abuja and examines the relationship between POS system usage and customer satisfaction. The study is limited by factors such as variations in customer preferences and potential biases in survey responses.
